Like water ~

   Paper + Stitch 🗺️

Paper + Stitch sits alongside my textile practice as a quiet, contemplative extension of Like Water. Created on vintage khadi paper, each ink drawing captures rhythm and repetition — the same meditative gestures that guide my work with cloth. A single stitched thread is then added, anchoring the drawing back to the tactile world of fabric. It becomes a hinge between mediums: one moment of connection, one breath linking line to thread.

This series continues the questions at the heart of Like Water, my ongoing exploration of the fluid nature of home and identity. If Like Water flows through threads made from old maps, then Paper + Stitch allows that flow to surface on paper — revealing how movement, memory and belonging travel across different forms.

Both bodies of work come from the understanding that home is not fixed, and that the joy of being and belonging lies in constant becoming and unbecoming. Through these pieces, I return to the central inquiry that shapes this larger exploration:

“What do you see when you see your reflection in water?
Do you see yourself — or the water in you?”

In this way, Paper + Stitch extends the metaphor of flow — offering another space to reflect on identity, coexistence, and the quiet threads that connect one moment to the next.
