Circles ~
Mapping Thoughts and Emotions Through Stitch (Ongoing since 2020)
In this ongoing series, Circles, I explore the act of stitching as a contemplative and expressive process—an intimate means of mapping thoughts, emotions, and ephemeral experiences. Each stitch functions as a mark of attention, a trace of presence, and a record of internal movement.
The series draws inspiration from the concept of Rasa in Indian aesthetics—often translated as “essence,” “flavour,” or “emotional resonance.” In classical Indian art and philosophy, Rasa refers to the distilled emotional essence of an experience, the felt quality that lingers beyond language. Through circular forms and repetitive stitching, I attempt to distill and give shape to these intangible states—capturing what cannot be said, only felt.
The circle becomes a recurring motif—a meditative form, both open and complete. It suggests wholeness, cycles, and return. As I stitch, I am not simply creating patterns; I am charting the shifting terrain of interior life—layering memory, thought, and emotion into textile.
Circles is not about fixed meaning but about felt presence. The work invites the viewer into quiet spaces of reflection—where attention, time, and emotional nuance are made visible through thread.
