In Lure of New Worlds ~ 2022
In Lure of New Worlds is a new series that continues my ongoing exploration of memory, place, identity, and belonging—expressed through a meditative practice of repetitive hand-stitching.
Each work in the series represents an abstract map of an imagined world. These are not maps defined by geopolitical lines or national borders, but intuitive cartographies—worlds shaped by coexistence, fluidity, and balance.
My process involves shredding printed fabrics from collected old maps and personal artefacts to create my own threads. With these threads of memory and movement, I stitch new terrains—lands without labels, where harmony and interconnectedness take form.
The series comprises seven spheres—seven symbolic worlds—each embodying a vision of a reimagined, more connected future. The slow making of these spheres mirrors a quiet hope: that as I reshape my inner world, the outer world, too, is evolving. As Arundhati Roy wrote,
“Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”
The Seven Worlds ~
Displaced
A vision of a world that heals—where disconnection is met with care, and where fragments come together to embrace and mend.
Of Two Lands
A landscape formed by two places in dialogue. This piece reflects the duality of my own identity—flowing between India and the UK—where two homes converge into one sense of being.
Melange
A terrain made up of many places. It holds space for multiplicity, celebrating the evolving identities that emerge through co-existence.
Imagined Landscape
A stitched dreamscape—composed of places lived, longed for, remembered, imagined, or displaced from. A cartography of hope and memory.
On
A piece anchored in presence: the place you are in, or connected to. It may be home—or a home away from home. A grounding point on the map of belonging.
Coalesce
A world that comes together. A soft convergence of parts into a whole—a meditation on unity, integration, and collective being.
Core
A reminder that we are not separate from nature—we are nature. This work reflects our essential interconnection with the earth and all living things.
